Leukemia is a type of cancer that
starts from white blood cells (called lymphocytes) in the bone marrow. These
lymphocytes involve the blood and blood-forming organs and circulate through
other tissues, where they grow.
It is estimated that in 2008,
approximately 44,270 new cases of leukemia will be diagnosed in the United
States, of which 3,540 will be in children ages 0 – 19.
